Tim Small MA, MEd, PGCE, NPQH
Hello! I am a South Gloucestershire-based coach, counsellor and UKCP trainee therapist, in my final year of advanced training as a Transactional Analyst (TA Psychotherapist) at the Berne Institute, near Nottingham, with a Certificate in Counselling Skills from the Berne Institute.
Professionally, I think of myself first as an educator who believes passionately in lifelong learning. I continue to learn and grow, myself, through my training and work with clients, many of whom are experiencing the psychological and emotional pressures of school leadership. I believe it is vitally important for leaders to attend to their own growth and wellbeing in order to give so much to their work. I try to help them with that.
My professional background is as an Education Consultant with fifteen years' experience supporting leadership and learning in UK, Australia, Malaysia and the Middle East, being a former teacher and headteacher with twenty-nine years’ experience in comprehensive schools, after graduating in English Literature at Cambridge.
I'm a trainee member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), a member of the UK Association for Transactional Analysis (UKATA) and the International Transactional Analysis Association (ITAA) and registered with the Information Commissioner as a Data Controller (Reg. ZA182812).
More importantly, I am a father of three grown-up children and a happily re-married husband with three step-children and seven step-grandchildren and I am deeply proud of them all.
I am also an associate governor of the primary school in my village and the author of articles, chapters and reports, in peer-reviewed publications about learning, leadership, creativity and values in education.
